There are many ways to lay solid wood or engineered flooring. It can be layed over concrete, plywood, chipboard, particleboard, timber joists, using underlay, existing floor boards. The flooring can be secured by secret nailing or face nailing. Face nailing is a more robust method in fixing the floors, but the timber planks need to be 130mm or wider. If you want to install flooring in a new built house, the flooring installation is the last job of all the outher construction activities.

Wooden floor is a natural product and it does respond to changes in the weather conditions – i.e. seasonal temperatures and humidity fluctuations. The flooring can swell or shrink depending on the time of the year. When the flooring loses moisture you may see gaps apear between the planks, on the other hand if the ais more humid, you can notice that joint gaps will disappear.

Usually new solid wood flooring is dried to a moisture percentage of around 12%. Sometimes the flooring would need to rest in its new home for a few days prior to installation to adjust to new climate conditions. This is quite important in fully air conditioned premises.
